"My Files" (the "App") is provided by the App's developer ("we" or "us"). It is a local file manager that also offers optional cloud storage integration, media editing, Privacy Encryption and Usage Analysis features.
We respect and value your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the App, how we use it, with whom it is shared, and the rights you have over your data.
If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please stop using the App. If you are a minor, please use the App only after your parent or legal guardian has read and agreed to this policy.
This English version is a translation; if it differs from the Traditional Chinese version, the Traditional Chinese version prevails.
1. Data We Collect
1. Data you provide or authorize
The App does not offer or require any form of account registration. Using the local file management features does not require you to provide identity information such as your name, phone number or email.
If you choose to link a Dropbox account on the "Cloud Storage" page, we obtain an access token through the service's official authorization (OAuth) mechanism, and, according to your actions, read, display, move or delete files and folders in that cloud account (including metadata such as file names, sizes and modification times, and the content of files you actually open or move). This link is initiated entirely by you. The token is stored only on your device, and we never upload it to any server operated by us (the App itself has no backend server).
2. Device information read to provide specific features (processed and displayed only on your device, never sent to us)
Storage access: Reading, writing, renaming and deleting files and folders on your device is the App's core function and requires your authorization in the system settings.
Approximate location / Wi-Fi network information: The "Usage Analysis" page shows the name of the Wi-Fi network you are connected to and network connection information. If the device has already granted location permission for another purpose (such as the advertising service), this feature uses it to show a more complete name. We do not separately store or transmit your location data.
App usage status: The usage time / data usage rankings on the "Usage Analysis" page require you to additionally grant "Usage access" in the system settings. The statistics are computed and displayed only on your device.
Notification access: If you additionally enable "Notification access" in the system settings, the notification count ranking on the "Usage Analysis" page counts the source and number of notifications sent by each app, but does not read, store or upload the actual text of notifications.
Microphone permission (audio session): Used only to draw a real-time volume visualization while music is playing (reading the volume level of the audio currently playing). It does not record, store or upload any sound.
Nearby device discovery and local network information ("Quick Send" feature): If you use "Quick Send" to exchange files with another device that has the App installed on the same local network (the same Wi-Fi, or with one side turning on a hotspot), the App requests permissions such as nearby Wi-Fi devices / approximate location to discover and connect to the other device on the local network. This feature does not go through our servers or any third-party server; file content is transferred directly between your device and the other device. The App only performs discovery while you have the "Quick Receive" or "Quick Send" screen open in the foreground, and stops as soon as you leave the screen.
Photo library access ("Memory Journal" feature): The App offers an optional nostalgic recap feature that occasionally scans photos in your camera folder (for example "On this day X years ago" or themed collections automatically grouped by content) and creates collages on your device for you to view, keep or share. The related theme recognition runs entirely on your device (photos are never uploaded to any server). The generated memories and thumbnails are stored only in the local database on your device and are automatically cleared after a period of time according to the retention rules.
3. Device and usage data collected automatically
Device information: Basic device information such as device model, operating system version, language and screen resolution (Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics).
Usage behavior: The names of the screens you view in the App and the feature category each screen belongs to (for example whether you are browsing images, videos, music or documents), used to understand how features are used and to improve the App (Firebase Analytics). We do not record the names of individual items you tap or file content.
Crash and exception reports: Technical diagnostic information when the App encounters an error or crashes (Firebase Crashlytics).
Push token: If you allow notification permission, we obtain your device's push token through Firebase Cloud Messaging to send App-related notifications (such as version update reminders).
Advertising ID and ad interaction data: The App uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to display ads, and uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to obtain your consent for ad personalization as required by the laws of your region (such as the consent requirements applicable to the European Economic Area / United Kingdom). AdMob collects the Advertising ID and ad impression / click data to display and (to the extent of your consent) personalize ads. You can reset or disable the Advertising ID at any time in your device's system settings.
Subscription and purchase records: If you choose to upgrade to a VIP subscription (monthly / yearly, used to remove ads and unlock the corresponding premium content), the purchase and payment process is handled entirely by Google Play's billing system (Google Play Billing). We do not obtain payment instrument information such as your credit card number or payment account. We only obtain your subscription status (for example whether the subscription is active and which plan) through the Google Play Billing Library, to determine on your device whether to provide the corresponding ad-free benefits.
4. Data we do not collect
We do not access, upload or store the content of the files you manage locally or in cloud storage (such as photos, videos and documents) on any server operated by us — the App has no backend server, and all file operations take place directly between your device and your own cloud account.
The list of items you mark as encrypted in the "Privacy Encryption" feature and their unlock status are stored only in the local database and memory of your device, and are never uploaded or synced to any server. When the App goes into the background, the unlock status is cleared and you need to verify again with your device credentials (screen lock / biometrics). Please note: This feature is only an access control mechanism within the App, intended to prevent others from accidentally seeing content while you browse files in the App. It does not actually encrypt the files themselves. Files or folders marked as encrypted still exist in their original state in your device's storage, and may still be opened or viewed normally through the system's built-in file manager, other third-party file manager apps, or by connecting the device to a computer with a cable and browsing the storage directly; they are not protected by this feature. If you need to prevent specific files from being exposed if your device is lost or physically accessed by others, we recommend system-level protection such as full-device encryption and a screen lock.
2. How We Use Your Data
To provide, maintain and improve the App's core functions (file browsing and management, cloud integration, media editing, etc.).
To analyze usage behavior and diagnose crashes, in order to fix problems and optimize performance and user experience.
To display and manage third-party ads — ads are one of the main ways the App remains free to use.
To process and verify your VIP subscription status, to determine whether to provide benefits such as ad removal.
To send push notifications related to the App (such as version update reminders). You can turn off notification permission at any time in the system settings.
To comply with legal requirements, or to protect the legitimate rights and interests of us and our users to the extent necessary.
3. Who We Share Data With
Except in the following cases, we do not provide the data we collect from you to third parties:
Service providers
Google (Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics / Cloud Messaging, Google Play services, Google Play billing services / Billing, Google Mobile Ads / AdMob and User Messaging Platform / UMP), and Dropbox (only when you actively link that account). These third parties process the data they obtain according to their own privacy policies, which we recommend you also read:
Legal requirements or protection purposes When necessary to comply with laws or requests from competent authorities or judicial bodies, or to prevent fraud, investigate illegal activities, or protect the rights of us and our users.
With your consent Other than the above, we will disclose your data to other third parties only with your consent.
4. Cross-Border Transfers
Because the service providers we use (such as Google and Dropbox) have servers in many locations around the world, the data described above may be transferred, stored or processed outside Taiwan. All such transfers comply with this policy and the requirements of applicable personal data protection laws.
5. Data Retention and Your Choices
Unlinking a cloud account: You can remove a linked cloud account in the App at any time, or revoke the App's authorization directly in your Dropbox account settings, at which point the access token we hold becomes invalid immediately.
Usage history: You can turn off "Activity Logging" in "Settings > Privacy" and clear all existing records with one tap.
Privacy Encryption records: You can remove them one by one or all at once in "Settings > Privacy". The data is stored only on your device.
VIP subscription: You can view, change or cancel your subscription at any time on the "Subscriptions" page of the Google Play Store. Payment and refund matters related to subscriptions are handled according to Google Play's policies, and we cannot process refunds for you directly.
Uninstalling: Uninstalling the App removes all local data created by the App on your device (including encryption records, usage history, personalized settings and Memory Journal-related local data).
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
The App itself does not use cookies. However, when you open third-party web pages through the built-in browser, such as a cloud account authorization login page, those pages may create cookies according to their own mechanisms. This is governed by the third party's own privacy policy and is beyond our control.
7. Data Security
We follow the principle of least privilege when designing the App's features and permission requests, and request system permissions only when the corresponding feature is used. The "Privacy Encryption" feature uses the device's own screen lock / biometric verification as access control within the App, and the related unlock status never leaves your device. However, as described above, this feature does not actually encrypt the files themselves and does not affect the possibility of those files being accessed through other apps or means.
In addition, no method of transmission over the internet or of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please take good care of your device and your cloud account passwords.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is a general productivity tool and is not designed specifically for children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and find that your child has provided us with personal data without your consent, please contact us using the contact information below, and we will take the necessary steps to remove the data.
9. Your Rights Under the Personal Data Protection Act
Under the Personal Data Protection Act of the Republic of China (Taiwan), you may exercise the following rights regarding your personal data held by us: to inquire about or review it, to request a copy, to supplement or correct it, to request that we stop collecting, processing or using it, and to request its deletion. You can contact us using the contact information below to exercise these rights; however, where the law provides otherwise or there are legitimate reasons for retention, we cannot guarantee that all of your requests can be fulfilled.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may revise this policy from time to time, and will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. If there are material changes, we will notify you through an in-app announcement or a push notification. If you continue to use the App after the policy is revised, you are deemed to have agreed to the revised policy.
